Ho letto la trilogia in poco meno di un mese e l'ho trovata semplicemente fantastica!
E poi ho continuato con "Lo hobbit", "Il silmarillion" , "Il cacciatore di draghi", "I figli di Hurin". Mi è piaciuto talmente tanto che poi mi sono documentata un pò: Tolkien è stato il primo a creare questo tipo di letteratura fantasy, è stato influenzato da vecchie leggende europee e ha creato un mondo intero, con la sua mitologia, le sue lingue, le sue usanze, le sue scritture,...e tutti gli altri scrittori fantasy che hanno scritto dopo di lui si sono ispirati suo lavoro. Insomma: un genio!
I read the whole trilogy in a month and I thought it was amazing!
Then I kept going with "The Hobbit", "The Silmarillion", "Farmer Gils of Ham", "Hurin's Sons". I liked his books so much that then I did some research: Tolkien was the first to create this kind of fantasy literature, he was influenced by old european leggends and created an entire world, with its mythology, its languages, its costumes, its writings... and all the other fantasy authors that came later were inspired by his works. A genius!
La storia, per chi non avesse né letto i libri, né visto il film (VERGOGNA!! :-), è semplice tanto quanto viene poi dettagliatamente narrata.
Il giovane hobbit Frodo riceve in eredità dallo zio Bilbo, tra le altre cose, uno strano anello che viene riconosciuto dallo stregone Gandalf come "l'Anello del Potere". È fondamentale che questo anello venga distrutto per evitare che torni in possesso di Sauron (il signore oscuro della Terra di Mezzo), dentro il quale ha riversato gran parte della sua magia. Frodo decide di inizire il viaggio verso il luogo dove è possibile distruggere questo anello: Monte Fato. Durante il viaggio incontra uomini, elfi, nani, cavalieri, orchi e strane creature di ogni genere; alcuni lo aiutano, altri lo ostacolano, altri faranno entrambe le cose, mentre la guerra tra bene e male dilaga in tutta la Terra di Mezzo.
The story, for those of you who neither read the books nor watched the movies (SHAME ON YOU!!! :-), is as easy as it's told.
The young hobbit Frodo inherits from his uncle Bilbo, amongst all the other things, a strange ring, recognized by the wizard Gandald as "the Ring of Power". It's important that this ring is destroyed to avoid that its creator, Sauron (the Dark Lord of Middle Earth) regains possession of it, inside which put most of his magic power. Frodo decides to start this journey toward the place where this ring can be destroyed: Mount Doom. During this journey he meets men, elves, dwarves, knights, orcs and all kind of weird creatures; some help him, others try to stop him, some will do both, while this war between good and evil spreads thought Middle Earth.
Devo dire che, questa volta, la trasposizione in film è venuta abbastanza bene anche se, ovviamente, ci sono stati dei tagli e degli aggiustamenti. Mettiamola così: se girassero tutti i tagli fatti ai libri verrebbero fuori altri due film!
Per quello che ho letto io, i libri si richiamano uno con l'altro; ci sono elementi e/o personaggi che ritornano, anche piccoli dettagli che però fanno capire quanto alta fosse la cura che Tolkien metteva nei dettagli. L'esempio più eclatante è il famoso anello: ne "Lo Hobbit" sembra essere un piccolo oggetto magico e invece...

I must say that, this time, the passage from book to movie came really good even if, of course, many things were cut and some things were modified. Let's put it this way: if they should film all the cuts done from the book there will be other two movies!
For what I read, all the books refer to one an other; the are elements and/or characters that come back, even if in little details that make you understand how much care Tolkien did put in details.
The most stryking example is the Ring: in "The Hobbit" looks like a little magical object but then...
